One of the most common reasons for hydraulic component failure is contamination. This occurs whenever a foreign object (i.e. dirt, air) gets through the seals. These foreign substances create problems that the system must overcome. When this happens, the system tends to work harder, until it eventually fails.
While there are plenty of oil options on the market today, it is best to use hydraulic oil specifically designed to work with the high-pressure and heat build-up that these systems create.
You will need to replace the hose, so it’s best to talk to a hydraulic expert who can determine whether you have the right parts installed and then find a replacement.
First, measure the diameter of the threads. Then look at the fitting, is it tapered (NPT) or straight (SAE, JIC, ORB)? Finally, check to see if it is angled or if it swivels. When you talk to an expert, you will be asked these questions. Equipped with this information, you can get help to find the right parts.
To find the length of the hose, measure from fitting to fitting. While looking at the fittings, make sure you check if they are tapered or straight, angled or swivelled. As for the diameter, measure from the inside of the opening (i.e. inside; side-to-side) using a ruler or measuring tape. If you need the outer diameter follow the instructions above, switching from the inside to the outside of the opening.
